G7 Nations Urge Immediate De-escalation Between India and Pakistan

The G7 foreign ministers, representing Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union's High Representative, have issued a joint statement urging India and Pakistan to de-escalate their ongoing tensions immediately. This call for restraint follows a recent militant attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22.

The G7 statement strongly condemned the attack, expressing deep concern for the safety and security of civilians on both sides of the border. It emphasized that further military escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors could pose a severe threat to regional stability.

"We urge both India and Pakistan to exercise maximum restraint," the statement read. "We are deeply concerned about the safety of civilians on both sides and stress the importance of direct dialogue between the two countries to achieve a peaceful resolution."

The G7 foreign ministers also reiterated their commitment to closely monitoring the situation and providing diplomatic support for a swift and lasting solution to the crisis.
